Reckless Driving By Out Of State Drunk Driver Results In Death Of Punta Gorda Woman
Florida Highway Patrol reported a deadly crash in Port Charlotte early Monday morning.
The crash occurred as a 37-year-old woman from Punta Gorda was driving a Kia sedan southbound on U.S. 41 in the center lane approaching the intersection with Olean Boulevard.
As the woman lawfully traveled on the roadway, a 23-year-old man from Texas was driving a sedan in the lane directly behind the woman, at a high rate of speed.
At 2:00 AM the speeding car crashed into the back of the Kia sedan in a violent collision.
The extreme force of the crash shoved the Kia off the roadway where it came to a stop facing southwest in the grass median.
After slamming into the Kia the seeding car was redirected into the northbound lanes of U.S. 41 facing the south in the left turn lane.
Charlotte County EMS responded to the crash and pronounced the woman deceased at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the speeding car was arrested and taken to Charlotte County jail, where they have been charged with multiple crimes including, Vehicular Homicide and D.U.I. Manslaughter.
