Common Neck And Back Injuries After Accidents

Have you ever been involved in an accident? It doesn't really matter what kind, either. Perhaps you had a slip and fall in the middle of a grocery store, or did you trip over an uneven sidewalk in front of a business? Then again, maybe you were involved in an auto accident. Those are typically violent and chaotic, so it would come as no surprise if you had injuries afterward.

The point is that accidents come in different shapes and sizes. That's why the injuries people sustain in them vary. For instance, a person in a car crash might end up with a traumatic brain injury.

Meanwhile, a child visiting somebody's property could get into a pool and drown. The list can pretty much go on and on. However, we are here to talk about specific injuries today and ones of the neck and back varieties.

Whiplash

Whiplash, of course, made this list. It is a very common injury. According to ChiroCare of Florida, there are 3 million new cases of whiplash reported each year. This injury happens when the head and neck jerk in a back-and-forth motion, like the cracking of a whip. Symptoms include:

▪ Stiff neck and shoulders
▪ Loss of range and motion
▪ Tingling in the arms
▪ Fatigue
▪ Dizziness

Whiplash can come to be in various ways. However, it is often caused by a person's car getting hit in the rear. Some individuals get by treating this injury at home, but others need medical care. You should see a doctor when symptoms are severe.

Lower Back Injuries

Lower back injuries are also known as lumbar spine injuries. The lumbar region of the spine is weight-bearing and features five large vertebrae. They are supported by muscles in the hips, stomach, and back.

Not to mention, there are also ligaments and tendons stretched out through the area. When injuries occur to this part of the back, they can be debilitating. In other words, people sometimes cannot walk, sit, lay, or do much of anything else with these damages.

Strains and sprains can enter the picture, but so can tears. Symptoms you should expect after sustaining lower back injuries include swelling, tenderness, and soreness. Rest and relaxation may get you recovered.

However, by the same token, you could need surgeries and therapy to get better. Different kinds of accidents can cause lumbar spine injuries. You might get one from a car collision, getting struck by a tractor-trailer, or something else. Thoracic spine injuries happen in the chest, rib, and mid-back areas.

These ailments regularly enter the picture due to front or rear-end collisions. They can be severe and cause permanent nerve damage. That isn't always the case, though. Other common symptoms associated with thoracic spine injuries are posture changes, muscle spasms, and weakness. But those are only a few signs, and there are plenty more where those came from.

Have you been seriously hurt in an accident because of someone's negligence? You might have the grounds to seek compensation if that's the case. Would you like to find out? Contact All Injuries Law Firm, P.A., to schedule a free evaluation with an attorney today.
