Fatal Crash In Port Charlotte At Cochran Highlights Need To Be Extra Careful At Intersections
This may have been the case in a tragic accident that happened Saturday afternoon in Port Charlotte when a cyclist was struck by a dump truck.
The accident happened as a 74-year-old man from Port Charlotte was riding a motorized tricycle going south on the shoulder of US 41 approaching the intersection with Cochran Boulevard.
As the cyclist was approaching the intersection, a 42-year-old man from Port Charlotte was driving a dump truck westbound on Cochran Boulevard, heading toward a green traffic light at the intersection with U.S. 41.
At 2:23:00 PM, the man riding the motorized tricycle tried to make a right turn from the shoulder of U.S. 41 onto southbound Cochran Blvd, and rode into the path of the oncoming dump truck.
The front of the dump truck struck the man riding the motorized tricycle and he came to a rest in the area of the collision.
First responders pronounced the man deceased at the scene and FHP has stated that an investigation is ongoing.
