Stay Alert When Behind The Wheel - Cape Coral Man Dies After Crossing Lanes Into Path Of Semi
Even something as innocent as changing radio stations or eating lunch on the go can result in sudden tragedy.
This danger was brought to light in a tragic and violent fashion when a car drifted out of its lane and into the path of an oncoming semi-tractor trailer.
The fatal truck accident occurred Wednesday evening as a 59-year-old man from Cape Coral was driving a sedan south on State Road 29, north of Oil Well Road.
At the same time, a 53-year-old man from Lehigh Acres was driving a semi-tractor trailer traveling north also on State Road 29, approaching the sedan lawfully in the lane of travel.
At 6:00:00 PM, for reasons unknown, the sedan drifted out of its lane and into the path of the oncoming truck.
The front of the car crashed into the front of the sem head-on. After the collision, the driver was ejected from the car and the sedan was rotated before coming to a stop on the grass shoulder.
After the crash, the semi burst into flames and the driver brought the truck to a stop on the southbound lanes.
The driver of the car did not survive the accident and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the truck escaped with only minor injuries.
While this crash is still under investigation, it is not known why the driver of the car failed to stay within the lane, however, we must consider the possibility they were distracted.
