Two Seriously Injured In Port Charlotte After Car Crashes Into House On Easy Street

As personal injury lawyers serving Charlotte County and southwest Florida, we have learned to expect the unexpected.

While few people expect to be hurt in a crash when they drive, most people do have an understanding that it could happen anytime they are on the road.

However few people would ever expect to be hit by a car while sitting in their own home.

Saturday evening in Port Charlotte that, unfortunately, is exactly what happened.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, two people were seriously hurt when a sport utility vehicle crashed into a home.

The crash occurred in a residential neighborhood in the center of town, as a 60-year-old man from Port Charlotte was driving a sport utility vehicle, heading south on East Street approaching the intersection with Croton Terrace.

At 7:04:00 PM for reasons unknown or not stated in the report the SUV swerved off the pavement and crashed into a parked, unoccupied vehicle.

After colliding with the parked vehicle the SUV continued onto a private property and crashed into a Palm Tree, then continued on south along Easy Street where the SUV struck a traffic sign.

After hitting the traffic sign the sport utility vehicle crashed into a house, injuring one person in the home, before colliding with a vehicle parked in the garage.

The SUV finally came to a stop within the interior of the home.

The injured person who was in their home was an 89-year-old man from Port Charlotte. After being hurt by the collision, he was transported to a local hospital in serious condition for medical treatment.

The driver of the sport utility vehicle was also seriously injured during the multiple collisions that took place during the accident.

FHP has stated that the crash remains under investigation and that charges are pending.

Without further details we cannot know if the at-fault driver was having a medical emergency, was driving distracted, or under the influence, but in any case this accident shows just how important it is for drivers to be focused on driving and be in condition to be behind the wheel.

We hope everyone involved in this crash makes a full recovery, however negligent behavior has a cost and harms lives.
