Pedestrian Killed in Late-Night Crash at US-41 and Midway Boulevard in Port Charlotte
Port Charlotte, FL - Florida Highway Patrol has reported a tragic accident occurred at the intersection of US-41 and Midway Boulevard late Tuesday night, resulting in the death of a 70-year-old pedestrian. The accident, reported by the Florida Highway Patrol, took place on June 4, 2024, at approximately 11:27 PM.
According to the FHP report, a van driven by a 66-year-old man from Port Charlotte was driving a van southbound in the center lane of US-41 , just south of Midway Boulevard. As the van approached from the north a pedestrian, also a resident of Port Charlotte, was walking in the inside lane of US-41, south of Midway Boulevard, ahead of the van.
The accident occurred when the van, attempting to pass slower-moving traffic, switched from the center lane to the inside lane. As a result, the front of the van struck the pedestrian. Despite the efforts of first responders, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the van did not sustain any injuries. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
